5 Life Lessons From the Journey of Pia Wurtzbach to Miss Universe 2015

After 42 years, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach finally brought back the Miss Universe crown to the Philippines. She is the 3rd Filipina who won the title following the likes of Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran. Miss Universe judges are impressed by her fierce and fabulous looks, her amazing answers in Miss Universe questions, and her inner beauty. Pia’s “showing to the universe that she’s confidently beautiful with a heart” answer wowed every single judge in the pageant, and voted for her to be the next Miss Universe. It might seem easy but her journey to Miss Universe was not. It was the result of her hard work, perseverance, persistence and confidence. Here are the life lessons we can learn from Pia Wurtzbach:

1. A winner is just a loser who tried one more time. – George Moore Jr.

Pia lost two times in Miss Philippines pageant before winning. Like her, people can learn many things from losing. They became better at what they do, making them succeed at their next attempt.

Many people doubted that Pia will ever make it in the last pageant. If she let the negative criticisms control her goals, she wouldn’t be able to achieve her dreams.

20 Hugot Lines From That Thing Called Tadhana

The movie literally takes us to the journey of two strangers at an Italy airport. Anthony joined Mace as she finds herself into recovering from an eight-year broken relationship. They traveled together at beautiful places in the Philippines such as Baguio and Sagada, and shared to each other what they’ve learned and still learning from love. How Sagada was captured in the early morning by the camera was breathtaking as well! Not to mention how the short story, “The Arrow With the Heart Pierced Through It” was also well-written.

What moviegoers will like about this film is its simplicity, its genuineness to give its audience a picture of what a person experiences from mending a broken heart without the needed grand gestures of sweet moments, that seems impossible to happen in reality. And If you’re looking for the famous lines in the movie. Well, you’re in the right place, as I give you not just 10, but my top 20 “hugot” (meaningful) lines from That Thing Called Tadhana (Destiny):

Destiny

M: “Makakarecover pa kaya ako?”

A: “Makakarecover ka. Kasi yung ganyan kalaking pagmamahal, ganyan ka-overwhelming, imposibleng walang papuntahan yan e. Babalik yan sayo. Not necessarily sa taong pinagbigyan mo, pero sigurado ako, mababalik yan sayo.”

A: “Sabi nga ni Scott Fitzgerald, ‘There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice.'”

M: “Kung mahal mo, ipaglaban mo. Gawin mo lahat para bumalik siya sayo. Wag kang mag-antay na may magtulak sa kanya pabalik sayo. Hatakin mo. Wag kang bibitaw.”

M: “Yan talagang Italy na yan. Wag yan makapunta-punta sa kanto namin. Ipapabugbog ko yan.”

A: “Dahon ng malunggay?”

M: “Paborito niya yung malunggay pandesal sa Project 8.”

A: “Wow. Sa lahat ng bagay naaalala mo siya ah.”

M: “Pano ba makalimot?”

A: “Pwede ka uminom gabi-gabi. Makipag-date kung kani-kanino…. Or pwede kang makahanap ng new love.”

A: “Kapag may dumaan na shooting star, ano iwiwish mo?”

Pakisabi thank you. Malungkot lang ako pero hindi ako mag-isa.”

A: “Eh yung ginawa mo sa airport nung binigyan ka ng tissue?”

M: “Concerned lang ako sa tissue.”

A: “Sige.

A: “Oo naman.”

A: “Bakit? Kapag sinabi niya, may magbabago ba? Ang bottom line hindi ka na niya mahal”

M “Di na kita mahal. Makakaalis ka na. Yung 8 years namin, ginawa niyang tapusin sa 7 words.”

A: “The heart asked, ‘Are you the arrow with the heart pierced through it?” Then, the arrow and the heart just smiled. They don’t need to say any.”

M: “Gano katagal bago mo siya nakalimutan?”

A: “Di na importante yun. Ang mahalaga, nakalimutan.”

English Only, Please – Quotes and Love Lessons

Julian Parker (Derek Ramsay) is looking for a Filipino tutor that will translate the words that he wanted to say to his Filipina ex-girlfriend. After several failed interviews, he is impressed when Tere Madlangsakay (Jennylyn Mercado) applied for that position. He then goes to Philippines, and is scheduled for Filipino language tutorials with Tere.

Aside from Julian who wanted to confront her ex-girlfriend as to why he left her, Tere is also blinded with the fact that her ex-boyfriend is just using her. She then does stupid things in the name of love. As a pair of hurting lovers, Tere and Julian shares the journey of coping with broken hearts and moving on with new beginnings.

But from the pain and happiness that people experience from falling in love, what are the things that we can learn from it? Here are some of the love lessons that the movie emphasized:

  1. Don’t settle for wrong love. Eventually you will find the right person who will see your worth and will not leave you.

“Darating din yung tao na di ka iiwan. Siyempre magkakamali ka at mag-aaway kayo pero nandiyan lang siya para sayo.” – Eventually, there will be a person that doesn’t have to leave. Of course, you will make mistakes. You will fight with each other, but he will still be there for you.

  1. It’s okay to give your all for the person who will do the same for you.

“Okey lang magpakatanga sa tamang tao.” – It’s okay to be crazy for the right person.

  1. There’s no point in looking back over a failed relationship. The past can’t be changed.

“We can never forget the people we love. But once they’re gone, they’re gone. We can’t do anything even if we look back.”

  1. You’ll regret passing an opportunity just because you’re afraid, or it didn’t work in the past.

“Dont waste an opportunity. Sayang!”
