My 10 Favorite Movies of 2019

Avengers: Endgame

The hype on this is real and I wanted to avoid being spoiled so I watched this one early morning. I loved how the story went, and how each group of heroes were able to have a mini-adventure, and ultimately have that one epic major battle at the end. Damn, I love all the characters. There are scenes that will let you out of your wits. It is so good.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

The thing I liked about this film is how they develop the character of Maleficent. She is a complex character with a beautiful origin. They were able to pull off each twist. It’s really a good suspense film. There were scenes that have a Game of Thrones feels.

Anna

The badass girl was enjoyable to watch. The ending was brilliant I must say, as Anna was able to handle all the possible scenarios on what could happen to her. It turned out that the badass girl is also as clever as bitch she is.

Quezon’s Game

The coloring of history that made Aguinaldo a hero when I was younger when in fact, Manuel Quezon had better vision to Philippines than the evil Aguinaldo. And thank you Quezon for saving some Jews and making us feel proud of ourselves. This movie will help you realize our human nature to help fellow humans.

Us

Us is creepy and the twist was unimaginable, although not perfect, it was good. For those who wanted to have a suspense one way after another, this one is for you.

Five Feet Apart

For fans of the Fault of our Stars, this one is for you. Five feet apart tells the story of lovers that need to be five feet apart always, so they were not be able to infect each other further as cystic fibrosis patients. Will you bend the rules for the one you love?

Escape Room

Those who have tried escape rooms like Breakout and Mystery Manila should try to watch this one. The game of tricks and puzzles has made it to the next level. Lastly remember, your state will not change if you’re being watched.

What Happened to Monday

I’d like to include this one because it was a hell of a ride watching this wonderful actress impersonate seven characters. I’d like the ending as well as the two characters show why they chose the side they are in. The revelation on the government’s plot as well as the twist of what really happened on Monday is awesome. This film never ran out of action.

Birdbox

I like unique concepts and the monsters making you go kill yourself is so appealing. The concept was simple yet hard to explain, if you see the monsters, you die. A woman and her children, the path she has to choose, the decisions she has to make, it’s still a must-see film.

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker

This is the conclusion of the Resistance movement against the Sith. I loved how Rey and Kylo Ren’s characters were able to showcase their skills as well as the development of their tragic love story. The final conclusion of Rey’s character was so satisfying as well. I kinda have guessed some of the plots in a good way except for one major twist.

 

 

10 Best Pick Movies for 2018

2018 is a year of great films. It offered a wide diverse and interesting concepts on the movie industry, as well as good conclusion to great movie series. Here are my top 10 movies for 2018.

BuyBust

This movie is Erik Matti’s finest film. It is brave enough to show the positive and negative impact of drug busts here in the Philippines. Anne Curtis’ portrayal is also astonishing including those stunning fight scenes that she has to deliver. This is both an awesome action film and an eye opener for Filipino viewers.

A Quiet Place

I like movies with unique concepts. This concept of monsters that are being aggressive to sounds was interesting. The characters have to escape and live without making so much sounds.

Venom

I love anti-hero movies like Deadpool. Although this movie has a low critic review, the movie goers rated the movie high. It was enjoyable and fun, and Tom Hardy’s portrayal was great.

Miss Granny

The Filipino portrayal of Miss Granny was a box-office hit. Not only is this story funny but also, it was able to captivate the hearts of those that have watched the film. On the plus side, the idea of being able to live your life young again was cool.

Mission:Impossible – Fallout

This is a great action film. The stunts are amazing. An action movie masterpiece was what they call it. The Mission Impossible series just get better.

Deadpool 2

Another anti-hero film that got me is the sequel to Deadpool. What I liked about the sequel is they made it funnier. I was able to enjoy the funny stunts that the movie made.

Ready Player One

The concept of being able to play as your avatar is what gamers are dreaming of and that’s what this movie appealed to a gamer like me. It’s a fun dilm.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure

The ending of Maze Runner saga is nothing short of thrill and action. It is one of those movies with finale that are well executed.

Pitch Perfect 3

When you thought the sequel can’t get any funnier, this final movie will make you laugh your heart out at your seats. It also is a bit nostalgic and sad knowing that this will be the last film. This movie was able to perfectly highlight what the movie is good at which are character diversity, good acapella and funny stunts.

First Love

First Love is all about living life to the fullest, taking risks and taking the best out of any circumstances. This movie has a wonderful love story worth watching.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Predictions: Dead or Alive

There are only hours before the first episode of Season 8. Here is the list of characters that we love and my speculations whether they will survive or not:

Tyrion Lannister (ALIVE) – I’m predicting he is going to survive, higher chances compared to his Targaryen counterparts aka Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. In the books, a red priest prophecied that Tyrion, a small man will cast a big shadow, snarling in the midst of all (dragons or Targaryens).

Missandei (ALIVE) – As this is unpredictable, what if Missandei was meant to be alive as people expect her not to be?

Grey Worm (DEAD) – I think he will also die fighting either for Daenerys or for the living.

Jon Snow (DEAD) – Many fans believe that Jon Snow will be the one who will inherit the Iron Throne, as he was a nearer successor to the Iron Throne than Daenerys Targaryen. However, the prophecy to Cersei made it clear that a younger woman will be the one who will sack her from the Iron Throne. Jon Snow also served his purpose for defeating the Night King, so the writer might let him die since he has nowhere else to go. GRRM has many surprises, and the way he writes his stories are always the least you expect. In that case, I don’t see Jon as being alive until the end.

Tormund Giantsbane (DEAD) – He will probably die in Winterfell.

Ser Davos (DEAD) – He will probably among the first to die in Winterfell.

Sam (ALIVE) and Gilly (ALIVE) – I hope he finally be a Maester or live well with Gilly.

Daenerys Targaryen (DEAD) – Game of Thrones is a book of prophecies. The maegi Mirri Maz Duur told Dany that when she became pregnant again, Khal Drogo will return. However, we know that Drogo will never come back. It might mean that Daenerys will die. In the house of undying, she wasn’t able to sit on the Iron Throne as well. We also know how Cersei sabotaged Margaery, she might also do it with Dany as Cersei might think that Dany will be the one that will replace her.

Jorah Mormont (DEAD) – He’ll probably sacrifice himself for Khaleesi so I don’t see him surviving.

Melisandre and Varys (DEAD) – Melisandre stated that she and Varys will die in Westeros.

Arya Stark (ALIVE) – Arya Stark will probably return as a Faceless Assassin. She would realize that she doesn’t belong in Westeros anymore.

Gendry (ALIVE) – He is back and I think he will play a major role if the other main characters are dead in the end.

The Hound (ALIVE) – I can see The Hound triumphant in the end with the Cleganebowl fight.

The Mountain (DEAD) – Finally.

Sansa Stark (ALIVE) – I have high hopes that Sansa will survive. She earned the trust of the Knights of the Vale and the Northerners. She is the likely ruler to rebuild what’s left after the war.

Lyanna Mormont (DEAD) – She is a fan favorite, and you know what GRRM will do.

Robin Arryn (DEAD) – As I see Sansa as a ruler, Robin Arryn will probably die one way or another.

Bran Stark (UNDEAD) – I think that Bran was able to cause a lot of trouble when he time travels more. As stated, staying in the past for too long is dangerous. He will probably get killed while warging, visiting the past. He will probably become among the undead, instead of helping Jon which may cause a lot of trouble. I would probably want that Bran would just create a loop if he died from the time that he first wake up after falling.

Meera Reed (DEAD) – I think she will probably die fighting in Winterfell if ever she comes back.

Beric Dondarrion (DEAD) – In the books, Beric is already dead giving his life for Catelyn Stark’s resurrection. Because of this, he will most likely be dead after all at the end of the show.

Jaime Lannister (DEAD) – I believe either him or Arya in some way will kill Cersei. In the books, Jaime said that if Cersei dies, he will have to die too. It might be a foreshadowing that he will die as well.

Bronn (ALIVE) – I would really hope that Bronn makes it until the end, and gets his castle.

Brienne (DEAD) and Podrick (DEAD) – Brienne and Podrick probably will die saving Sansa to fulfill her duties from Catelyn Stark.

Cersei Lannister (DEAD) – It was predicted by Maggy, a fortune teller, that she will be killed by a Valonqar, Valyrian term for little brother. Hands, Tears drowning you. Jaime already lost one of his hands, so it might mean that he is not the one that will kill Cersei. Tears of Lys is s ba type of poison, so I guess the “tears drowning you” stated by the fortune teller, might mean that Cersei will die from poison.

Euron Greyjoy (DEAD) – He will probably die but not that easily.

Theon Greyjoy (DEAD) – He’ll probably sacrifice himself for Yara.

Yara Greyjoy (ALIVE) – Yara will probably be triumphant in her battle with Euron Greyjoy. I hope she is still alive.

 

Other than these predictions, here is a summary of how I think this will gonna end agreeing to other fan theories out there.
1. No one will sit on the Iron Throne.
2. Bran will be the next undead to beat.
3. Sansa and Tyrion will be the future rulers.
4. King’s Landing will be a mess because of wildfire.

Favorite Lines From Everything About Her

Nowadays, it’s rare to find a Filipino film with a right mix of comedy and drama, brilliant script, heartfelt dialogues, sincere acting, and a catchy song. I was surprised how this film became one of my favorite best Pinoy films following the likes of Heneral Luna and OTJ, maybe because it’s that good in every aspect. It was sincere but not boring. It was a tearjerker but not heavy drama. It was delivering a comedy relief, yet you can not find it cheap.

Here are my 10 favorite lines or dialogues from that movie:

“I’ve realized that no matter where you are, or who you’re with, I will always truly completely love you.” That’s my favorite quote from the movie. Is there love in a special friendship evolved through the years? Rosie and Alex are childhood best friends. Through the years that they develop this special connection, they were afraid to try for their special feelings toward each other. They were separated when Alex has to pursue his college degree in Harvard. Rosie was supposed to study in Boston University, but she became pregrant, and kept that secret to Alex even when she bid him goodbye at the airport.

Everytime they want to pursue their romantic love for each other, it was wrong timing, always. They keep missing the chance to pursue their love for each other because of fate and for pursuing the next best choice. I guess the movie’s lesson is not to settle for the second best, and just go for what you really want. Your heart already knows what’s best. You just have to make things happen. And even if trying to achieve what you really want is difficult, we must not lose faith, and don’t get tired of waiting. It’s better than living life with regrets. Moviegoers will surely be thrilled with this rollercoaster love story.
